In a recent report by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), it was revealed that the gambling market in the Keystone State saw a 6.2% year-on-year increase in overall monthly revenue, reaching a total of $505.9 million. This growth was largely attributed to the rise in sports betting and igaming, which helped offset a decline in the land-based market.
According to the report, sports betting experienced the most significant growth, with adjusted gross revenue increasing by 46.1% year-on-year to $53.5 million. Online betting accounted for $47.2 million of this total, while $6.3 million came from retail sportsbooks across the state. Player spending also saw a substantial increase, reaching $811.3 million for the month, a rise of 11.7% compared to the same period last year.
FanDuel and Valley Forge Casino Resort continued their dominance in the Pennsylvania market, generating $27.4 million in revenue from $320.5 million in bets. DraftKings and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows followed closely behind, with revenue of $13.1 million from a $237.2 million handle. BetMGM and Hollywood Casino Morgantown occupied the third spot with $2.5 million in revenue from a $53.5 million handle.
On the igaming front, revenue for September totaled $176.7 million, a 10.8% increase from the previous year. Online slots accounted for $132.0 million of this total, showing a 15.1% year-on-year increase. Internet table games revenue also experienced growth, reaching $42.4 million, while poker revenue dipped slightly to $2.2 million. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course continued to lead the igaming market with $66.9 million in revenue, followed by Valley Forge Casino with $47.1 million and Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $31.5 million.
Despite the positive growth in sports betting and igaming, the land-based sector in Pennsylvania saw declines in revenue. Slots revenue dipped by 1.5% to $197.7 million, while physical table games revenue was 2.3% lower at $73.5 million. Video gaming terminals revenue saw a slight increase of 3.6% to $3.4 million. Fantasy sports revenue, however, fell by 4.8% to $1.9 million.
Overall, the Pennsylvania gambling market continues to show resilience and adaptability in the face of changing trends and challenges, with sports betting and igaming leading the way in revenue growth.
